Research degree progress and monitoring

Information on suspensions, extensions, annual progress review (APR) and the unsatisfactory academic progress procedure

The policy provides guidance for those cases where consideration is being given to a postgraduate researcher (PGR) changing their research project/focus.

Progress and monitoring - postgraduate researchers

PGRs and supervisors should meet regularly and records must be kept of all formal supervision meetings. Formal reports are also needed at key points during the research degree.

Suspensions and extensions of study for postgraduate research students

Where circumstances or events occur which adversely impact on a research student's progress, the University may grant a period of suspension or extension of study. This may also happen during the referral period.

Transfer to doctoral study

To progress to doctoral study PGRs must pass transfer

Unsatisfactory academic progress procedure (research students)

This procedure applies to postgraduate research students only and will be instigated when the supervisor(s) has concerns about the student's academic progress.
