Change of programme

Students are not entitled to change programme, however, if places are available and the student meets entry criteria they may be able to move to a new programme.

Once you have decided that a student can change programme, you need to complete a change of programme form. You should return the original form to the Programmes and Assessment (Exams) team and send a copy to the relevant School. You should then update the student record in Banner.

Change of programme requests from Tier 4 international students are more complex. If the change will result in a change of end date please follow the instructions on the form before updating Banner. It is essential that immigration restrictions are checked and that the student receives immigration advice before a change of programme is approved.

Tier 4 international students that will be undertaking a work placement or study abroad year can now apply for their new Tier 4 leave (visa) at any point before their current leave expires. For further information regarding the process, please see our work placements and study abroad visa page.

Please ensure that change of programme forms are emailed to the International Student Advice Team at the earliest opportunity for approval.  If approved, this will then enable students to request their new CAS and make their new Tier 4 application in time for their new immigration permission to be received before they commence the work placement or study abroad year.
